How Technology Is Changing Business

How Technology Is Changing Business

Technology is only becoming more advanced and the pace that it’s evolving at is only getting faster. It’s already changed business significantly enhancing the way that companies and organisations communicate with consumers, improve products and services, speed up business processes and access data. Innovations such as cloud computing, CRM and the internet of things are just a few examples of technology that have dramatically changed business.

The invention of these technologies is only making the way businesses work more efficient, productive and profitable, which is desired by all companies and the reason for adopting these innovations. However, even though the impact of technology is only positive the hardest part can be adapting to the change that they bring when implemented.

Here we will discuss how to manage a company and describe key technologies and how they change business.

Cloud computing

The cloud computing concept has fundamentally changed the way we work and communicate. The cloud improves operations by giving businesses more storage space and scaling with the needs of the company. It offers more flexibility by allowing employees to work from home or whilst commuting increasing productivity. There have been concerns over the security of data that is stored on the cloud but cloud services are stepping up and constantly improving their security in order to eliminate this worry.

Ultimately, cloud computing has increased productivity in businesses with services such as Google Drive allowing employees to connect through the cloud and work on documents or spreadsheets at the same time.

Mobile technology

These days consumers want everything at their fingertips and smartphones have become more than just gadgets they have become an integral part of everyday life. This has shaped the way that consumers access and purchase services and products and in turn, has impacted the way businesses work.

Companies have been leveraging this technology to improve customer loyalty by providing an uninterrupted connection between the business and its customers. Mobile apps are also enhancing customer engagement by offering a personalised experience to customers and allowing the customer to connect with the business 24/7.

Further to this mobile technology is improving businesses marketing by allowing the business to directly communicate with consumers about new product or service launches through push-notifications and in-app purchases.

Video technology

The way business personnel communicate with each other and this is mainly due to the advent of video technology is a major change that has been sweeping the business landscape.

Video conferencing technology is the way businesses conduct conference meetings and communicate ideas in teams.. It’s becoming more common for employees to work remotely and for businesses to work with teams and partners that aren’t within commuting distance. The solution to this is webinars, hangouts, and high definition video technology. Due to this demand for one-click communication small and large organisations are using video calling software to connect with customers, partners, and teams.

The Internet of Things (IoT)

IoT has truly made its presence known throughout the business landscape and has changed various industries. Its development has enabled businesses to access more data by tracking and recording behaviour patterns meaning they can refine their targeting and better connect with customers. Predicting trends and phenomena has also become easier with the IoT especially within the retail sector. Companies can collect and analyse data from social media, mobile and internet usage to accurately design products and services to suit.

Smart speakers are being introduced into workplaces to help employees manage their time and schedules and automation is taking over repetitive, mundane tasks so that employees can focus their efforts elsewhere fundamentally increasing productivity and efficiency.

How to manage these changes

This technology wants to be applied into business processes, business leaders face challenges while doing it. Adapting to technological changes is not always easy and can be increasingly difficult within large organisations.

A major change in an organization never comes without obstacles. There will be questions and doubts and although there will be early adopters there will also be laggards. The key to managing such a crucial change is to create an overall effective strategy that considers everyone that will be affected and delivers the business change to all equally.

A business change consultancy will take the risk out of the business change as they create an innovative strategy and focus on the people of the company by preparing and equipping them for the change journey.

Employees are the most important part of a business and without their skills, expertise and support the business cannot grow and this is why they are crucial to the change management process and it’s important that they are properly equipped in order for the change to be successful and stick.

Are We All Just Living in a Digital World?

Are We All Just Living in a Digital World?

The emergence of technology in everyday life has grown a huge amount over the past ten to twenty years. Innovation is good; it encourages humans to think beyond their world and seek new possibilities, but, has the technology explosion we are all living in made us better or worse? Are our children looking at a world of endless possibilities, or are they all just going to be online like a scary version of The Matrix?

Mobile Phones

One of the biggest explosions on the technology scene was the cell phone. Now, they children can not only call someone, but they can also see them from all over the world. As strong and advanced as mobile phones, maybe they are starting to replace genuine human interactions, they can also play games, send text messages and even interact with each other on messenger. Everywhere you go, everyone is looking down at the glowing object in their hands. No sooner have they a few seconds spare, then they whip out their phone and check their social media status. Have smartphones started to take away the need to interact with a human being in person? Even some coffee shops are now letting customers order and pay for their drink online before they get there. No need to say good morning, they just do take and walk.

Social Media

A global online phenomenon, social media has erupted on the scene and firmly settled itself in the everyday activities of its users. Now, no matter what is going on in your life, you can share it instantly with billions of people all over the world, even those you don’t even know. It also means you can now sit there and view anyone’s social media feed and see into their lives. That is because social media has become the garden fence or the local bar in that you can hear the gossip of anyone you care to just by listening in to the conversation. Even though there are a vast number of people looking in, it doesn’t stop people from posting the most intimate things about their daily lives. In many ways, it is the real-life version of the soap opera that has become so popular or the real-life documentaries showing people who are destitute on the streets. However, social media has also shown its dark side as a way to harass and bully people, never more so than with kids at school. Now, bullying isn’t just restricted to the day at school, it continues in the social media world, leaving those effected seeming like there is nowhere to go. The problem is that because these bullies can hide behind their phones, their torment can reign unthrottled.

Computer Games

The world of computer games is huge all over the world, with millions of people all taking part in just one online game. It has led game makers to spend as much creating a game as movie studios spend on a blockbuster movie, if not more. In fact, many Hollywood actors have now seen this as another avenue to their acting talents, lending their voices and their digital likeness to many games. Three major console manufacturers Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo became a fierce competition to win gamers to the console. Meanwhile, other gamers wouldn’t touch a console, preferring the ‘pure’ gaming experience you can get from a PC. All of this work and money spent trying to give people a way to escape their daily lives. For a few hours, they can become anyone or anything they like, from a World War Two hero to a Jedi Knight. However, has the world we live in now become so dull and boring that the younger generation needs to seek other excitement? Is there less to offer in the real world to cyberspace? For many people, there is still the thrill of interaction and suspense at activities like the Boston Escape Room, where you all have to work together to solve clues. However, for some, it’s a natural progression from the technology of the past to that of the future. Now television has begun to be overtaken by computer games, years ago, television was a great escape in people's homes. Gamers can now feel as though they are really part of the action, this is one step ahead in the world of virtual reality.

Smart Homes

For many, their mobile phones equate to a major part of their life; it isn’t that they have their contacts or their messages in there, they might even have their credit cards and banking details stored on them. These phones are truly becoming smart, but this intelligence is now making its way into our homes. With the arrival home hubs like the Amazon Alexia and the Google Home, people are now starting to control their homes with nothing more than their voice. You can easily connect to play your favorite music, like something outside the track. So that control can be done they can also connect to kettle, lights and other kitchen tools. The benefits of these types of a home hub for elderly or housebound people is immense, but, it has done far more than just that, it has meant that for many things, you don’t even need to get out of your chair. It is an evolutionary step. First, there were televisions you need to turn over by hand, then came remote controls, and now voice commands. Where will it lead to next? Better to think of controlling not to talk?

With so much going on in the world, it is time everyone tried to look up from their phones and see the world around them.

What Is Involved In A Radiology Course

What Is Involved In A Radiology Course

Looking at a radiology course will be your first step if you are considering a career in radiology. The work involved in such a career is fascinating and varied, but it is demanding and requires a high level of skill and training. There are different types of radiology course according to what branch of the profession you wish to enter.

There are basically two branches of the radiology profession - radiologist and radiology technician or radiographer. A radiologist is a member of the medical profession who specializes in the use of imaging technology to diagnose clinical conditions. In order to qualify, you would first have to complete medical school, and follow this with several years of advanced training including a residency. At the end of this, you would be fully qualified in diagnostic procedures using x-ray technology, and also in specialized treatment of cancers. The radiology course in this case would be expensive and take a long time, but it would lead to a highly paid and prestigious career.

The other branch of the radiology profession is radiology technician. If you are interested in entering this field, the type of radiology course you choose will depend on what level of specialization you wish to achieve. Each state in the USA has its own licensing requirements, so you need to check first what your own state's requirements are before starting to select your radiology course. It is also important that you ensure that you attend a program at an accredited institution, certified by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiological Technology (JRCERT).

A radiology course can last from one to four years, depending on whether you decide to go for a certificate (one year), an associate's degree (two years), or a bachelor's degree (four years). If you think you will want to specialize later on, or work in a training or supervisory role, you should probably choose the bachelor's degree, with a view to continuing to a master's degree eventually. To qualify for admission to a radiology course, you will require a high school diploma and preferably have completed classes in basic sciences including anatomy, physiology and physics. (If you have not, you will need to take extra classes during your training.)

While on your radiology course, your classes will include radiology, radio biology and radio physics, patient care processes, medical ethics and medical terminology. You will learn how to carry out radio imaging procedures, including producing and interpreting x-ray and other images. The classes also include different techniques including tomography, digital radiography intensification, and image exposure. The radiology course will also include hands on experience, where you will learn such things as patient care, patient positioning, taking and interpreting scans and tests, and also self-protection from radiation.

As you progress in your career, you may decide to specialize in a particular branch of the profession, such as dental, forensic, pediatric or even veterinary radiology. Each of these specialties of course will require additional training. Whichever route you choose to take, you can be sure that your radiology course will open many doors, and provide the basis for an interesting and satisfying career.

5 Baby Boomer Trends in 2019

5 Baby Boomer Trends in 2019

As of 2019, the vast majority of the baby boomer population has reached the age of 55 or older. Many seniors are adopting unique and interesting lifestyles to compliment the changing economic and social landscape. This article will detail five baby boomer trends to watch out for in 2019.

1. An increase in longevity and active lifestyles

There must have been something in the water because baby boomers are aging remarkably well. In fact, according to the Harvard School of Public Health, today’s seniors are anticipated to lead longer, healthier lives in comparison to younger generations.

Research has shown that the increase in life expectancy has been coupled with a decrease in disabilities and chronic illnesses. This could very likely be linked to the fact that seniors are now more than ever embracing healthy, active lifestyles. In fact, individuals over the age of 50 years old are the fastest-growing demographic in the fitness industry.

While grandma and grandpa might be using a stairlift at home for their mobility needs, they’re working hard to reduce mobility aid devices in their outside-of-the-house lives. Remaining independent is the most important thing that seniors are thinking about as they age.

Furthermore, research has shown that between 35%-44% of individuals 75 years and older and 28%-34% of adults ages 65-74 are physically active. These overall numbers in our senior population are actually slightly higher in contrast with the general American population of which 28% are noted for being physically active.

2. Embracing the gig economy

Think that the vast majority of the freelance population is comprised of younger generations? Think again! A recent study found that the baby boomer population is embracing the gig economy almost as much as their younger counterparts. According to the Freshbooks 2018 Self-Employment Report, 49% of freelancers in the job market are 50 years old and over.

The study also found that 32% of baby boomers who currently worked full-time stated that freelance work was something they were considering within the next five years. Part of the reason behind this is that many baby boomers prefer a transition period before fully committing to retirement.

3. A growing interest in communal living

Aging in place is a popular trend among the baby boomer population, and this has grown to include a growing interest in communal living as an alternative to traditional options like assisted living facilities or hiring a caregiver. This has especially been a trend among female baby boomers.  Home prices soared by seeing the communal battle and the "modern loneliness epidemic".

4. Adopting a tech-savvy mindset

Baby boomers are the fastest-growing demographic among social media. Over 65% of baby boomers in the United States report being active on platforms such as Facebook and Youtube. Additionally, more than 58% report regular use of digital and mobile platforms for banking purposes, and over 12% of the baby boomer population enjoys the luxury of purchasing their groceries online. Pew Research found that roughly half of baby boomers streaming music online, and as of 2017, a whopping 84% regularly book their travel arrangements online. Furthermore, 53% of seniors surveyed stated that they absolutely “can’t live without” their smartphones.

What this means is that a vast majority of baby boomers are active online on numerous channels, regular users of mobile devices and enjoy staying connected to friends and family.

5. Baby boomer travel trends

Currently, 48% of baby boomers are expected to travel both internationally and domestically in 2019, and the baby boomer demographic is more likely than millennials or GenXers to be planning domestic travel arrangements at any given time. A recent AARP report found that seniors are expected to take anywhere from four to five leisurely trips and spend over $6,600 on vacations in 2019.

This means that the baby boomer demographic will be spending almost 20% more than millennials and around 34% more than their GenX counterparts on leisurely travel this year alone. What was the biggest motivating factor for international travel among the baby boomer population according to the research? Checking destinations off of the bucket list.

Final thoughts

There are numerous noteworthy trends regarding baby boomers to be aware of in 2019. By remaining knowledgeable of various lifestyle preferences, habits and behaviors of today’s seniors, professionals are able to gain valuable insight into the baby boomer generation in order to optimize their strategies and continue to provide high-quality care and services for contemporary seniors within their communities.
